A Moment With Maddy Jovicic

Introducing Maddy Jovicic. Maddy is a Newcastle based artist and creative inspired by food and travel. Her artworks are filled with happiness and will transport you to a European summer holiday. We had a moment with Maddy at her charming Newcastle studio, chatting passions and interests. We can’t wait to follow Maddy's journey as she experiments and pushes the boundaries with her creativity.

What do you do and how did you get into your line of work?

I am a multidisciplinary artist creating paintings and ceramics. I started creating as a form of moving meditation and a way to express myself creatively.

What does the word ‘creativity’ mean to you?

To me creativity is an expression of one's self, being inquisitive, problem solving and playing.

What’s the one project you’ve always dreamed of bringing to life, but haven’t yet?

I’m longing to do a collaboration with a fashion brand. To see my artwork on wearable pieces has been a dream for a few years now!

Which female creatives inspire you?

Rachel Saunders - @rachelsaundersceramics for clay inspiration and the beautiful community she has built

Jasmine Dowling - @jasminedowling everything she creates is beautiful

Isabelle Feliu - @isabellefeliu for dreamy, etherial works that I want to live inside of

Chloé Crane-Leroux - @chloecleroux for her short cinematic videos that romanticise life

Emily Yates - @myvisualcurrency I love her photography style, it makes me feel like I’m on holidays

What’s your most treasured piece of art/book/object, and what about it are you obsessed with?

I love collecting coffee table books and magazines (photography, cookbooks, interior design, fashion, art, travel). I like to look through them when I’m feeling uninspired to get creative ideas flowing again. It’s starting to become a little bit of a problem though because my collection is constantly growing and I have nowhere to put them!

Favourite time of the day: Sunrise or sunset?

Sunset because I’m never awake for sunrise. I also love the end of the day because it’s time get cosy and relax.

What’s your current colour obsession?

Magenta! It’s been magenta for a year now, I can’t get enough of it.

What’s your hero piece from the JB collection and how are you styling it?

I think my hero piece would have to be the Isla wrap top because it’s so versatile. I pair it with my Miu Miu ballet flats and some simple blue jeans.
